Installation
============

This program will assist you in the management of your Fleet Command files. If you have several different groups that you play Fleet Command with it is possible that the each use a different set of Doctrine, Database, and Scenario files. If you only play with one group then you do not need to install or use this program.

For this program to work properly you must create the following folders.

...\Fleet Command\Backup\[group_name]\Doctrines
...\Fleet Command\Backup\[group_name]\Database
...\Fleet Command\Backup\[group_name]\Scenario
...\Fleet Command\Backup\Originals\Doctrines
...\Fleet Command\Backup\Originals\Database
...\Fleet Command\Backup\Originals\Scenario

Substitute [group_name] for the name of the group that uses the file set so that you can identify the set by name. You can create as many groups as you need.

A screen shot of my own directory structure is included in the distribution file named fcdirs.jpg
You can see that I have the original release files, the Mike Kolar doctrines, and the Warship database project files all in my backup folder.

Copy all of your Doctrine, Database, and Scenario files that result from the original installation into the proper folder under ...\Fleet Command\Backup\Original\

Copy all of the Doctrine, Database, and Scenario files that are required by each group that you play into the proper folder under ...\Fleet Command\Backup\[group_name]\

Create similar folders for any other organization that you play with and copy their required files into their folders. Remember to call it ...\Fleet Command\Backup\[group_name]\Doctrines etc, (using the actual name in place of '[group_name]')

NOTE: All folders (Doctrines, Database, and Scenario must have files in them. Even though the 'Kolar' files do not have it's own database or scenario files you must load those folders with files. Use the database files and scenarios that you will be using when you use the Kolar doctrines. All of the file in the three folders will always move as a set.

Run the setup program and place in a folder of it's own. It should default to c:\Program File\FC Management.

Running FC Management
=====================

Run the program by clicking Start, Programs, FC Management.

When you run the program for the first time it will prompt you for the name of your main Fleet Command folder (usually c:\Program Files\Janes Combat Simulations\Fleet Command) and the name of the folder that will be the backup folder. In this case I have called the backup folder ..\Fleet Command\Backup Yours will probably be c:\Program Files\Janes Combat Simulations\Fleet Command\Backup

After the initial installation you may change the location of your backup files, but it should never be necessary. The program does not move the files to a new backup location, you just tell the program where to find the files. If you actually want to move the files to a new location you have to move them by hand, then use the Edit/Paths function and tell it the new location.

To select a group of files to install in the 'working' folders simply select the name of the organization whose files you wish to install and click OK. The contents of your Database, Doctrines, and Scenario folders are erased and the new files from the appropriate backup set are installed.

Version 1.2.6+ now indicates which files are currently installed. If you change your database or doctrine files using the windows explorer then FC Management will not report this information correctly since it keeps a record of the installed files in the scenario folder. (It cannot be kept in the database or doctrines folder.)

Upgrading from Previous Version
===========================

If you are upgrading from version 2.0.0 you can download and install the executable only and simply overwrite your fcdbdoc.exe file. For upgrading from a version 1.xx.xx you must uninstall FC Management then reinstall the full version.

Known Bugs and Errata
===================

None.

Mission designers: Once you have created a mission and saved it you will then then need to backup the mission by selecting the Backup option. Otherwise it will be overwritten during the next process.
